Did you hear the one about the American?

So today I finished reading And Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers which, to quote the book here, is fabbity fab fab. But it took me a while to think about how I cou;d relate this to everyday America. Then it hit me. In the book the main charecter, Georgia and her (British) family travel to the US. It sounded like it would be hilarious, and it was. But for all the wrong reasons. I had hoped to enjoy some tasty tidbits about uncle eddy's useless attepts at being american. Instead I found myself cracking up over the hilarity of US!! The Americans sounded so absured that I dismissed as pure humor. And we could just leave it at that.

But what if it's not just fun and games? What if the United States is in actuallity quite laughable over seas? What if we are just a joke to the other nations of the world? We are so proud of our great American blood but what if what makes us "us" is really what makes comical? Have we brought on this? In becoming "the greatest nation in the world" are we actually just digging ourselves deeper ino a hole?

What do you think? Is American doomed as a joke to all? Of is there still a chance for the name United States?

Should tyrants rule, or democracy reign?

This is something new that I'm going to try out. It was suggested to me that I should tie each book I "review"in with the modern world or with a quote. i thought I would start with The Other Boleyn Girl. In the book we see how the rule of King Henry the Eigth is law of the land. But is this really a good thing? When Henry's temper flares, heads roll. Even when things are terrible everyone must pretend to be happy and joyful and support him all thh way. There is no one to stand up to the king because there is only the king. To stand against him is to stand against the church and england.
Though there have been many great rulers through out history are they really better then democracy? Is it better to have one man or woman ruling or to spread power? In today's society there is freedom for everyone. Woman choose who they marry, people are allowed to dislike the president and not get shot, and of course no one gets tried for treason because they voice an opion that is differnt than everyone elses. So what do you think? Is the concept of a king or queen really bad? Or am I totally wrong about the whole thing? Let me know what you think

Keeps Getting Better

I've been reading so other blogs lately and have come to realize how bland and dry my blog is. It needs something to make it more interesting I just don't know what "it" is yet. I'm reading a book right now called seize the story to help me with my writing skills. Hopefully when I'm done with it I'll have some more intriging blog posts. Until then hang in there
